Book 2 Theme - Day of Cricket
I knew you first by shadows,
by the fear you left behind,
by the witches circling Alice
with your hunger in their eyes.
And Paul himself had sent me.
There was little left to say:
“Go to her. Stay beside her.
Keep the darkness far away.”
But hers was no heart to shelter
from the dangers of the deep.
Alice called—and in the darkness,
something ancient stirred from sleep.
The Dragon rose to meet her.
Now your walls were ours to find.
We followed every shadow
to the nest you hid behind.
I learned your guarded passages,
the secrets of your stone,
until I stood inside the chamber
where you waited all alone.
So this was the Almighty.
Such a little thing to see.
A hamster, changed beyond all knowing—
what the lens had done to me.
For a moment, I remembered
all the things I used to be.
Then I heard the world above us.
Alice still had skies to see.
You would never leave this chamber.
You would never reach her door.
Every road that led to Alice
ended here, upon this floor.
Let her see another morning.
Let her feel the wind and rain.
Let her call across the water
and the Dragon rise again.
I have followed you through darkness.
There is nowhere left to run.
You and I will leave together.
She will walk into the sun.
