For centuries, Mazinaw Rock has been a sacred place for Indigenous peoples. Today we know it holds more than 260 red ochre pictographs, making it the largest pictograph site in southern Ontario. The name Mazinaw comes from an Algonquin word meaning "picture" or "writing." The paintings depict people, animals, and abstract symbols, though many of their meanings have been lost over time.
